SAVANNA

Location: Africa, South America and Australia

Weather: 6-8 month wet season and 4-6 month dry season

Plants: all types of grasses, small shrubs and Acacia trees

Animals: elephants, zebras, giraffes, etc.

People: Hunting and poaching are leading to extinction of animals.


TAIGA

Location: North America, Europe and Asia

Weather: long, cold winters and warm, mild, wet summers


Plants: trees that have cones or deciduous trees like oaks

Animals: grizzly bears, wolves, deer, squirrel and jays, etc.

People: Logging, mining and hydroelectricity change the landscape 


TEMPERATE FOREST

Location: Eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan and Russia

Weather: 
four changing seasons including winter, spring, summer, and fall

Plants: Each year deciduous trees loose their leaves, and grow them back.

Animals: adapt to the seasons like chipmunks and black bear

People: acid rain, clear cutting and non-native species


DESERTS

Location: There are both hot (Sahara) and cold (Antarctica) deserts.  


Weather: very little rainfall


Plants: not many; hot deserts-cacti and cold deserts-algae and grasses

Animals: hot-snakes, insects, and lizards and cold-seals and penguins

People: mining, grazing, road building, recreation and utility projects
